Rue Crémieux

You are approaching a street that looks nothing like the rest of Paris. While the surrounding city is defined by the rigid, grey limestone of Haussmannian architecture, Rue Crémieux is a vivid, pedestrianized row of thirty-five pastel-colored houses. These small structures, built in 1865, were originally designed to mimic English worker pavilions. The street itself was created on the site of the former Imperial Arena, a large outdoor entertainment venue that hosted carnivals and spectacles during the 1850s.
