Le Bal Blomet

Le Bal Blomet began in 1924 as a political campaign office for a Martinican candidate named Jean Rezard des Wouves. To keep his sparse audiences entertained, he took to the piano and played the traditional music of his Caribbean roots. The music proved far more successful than the politics, and the back room of this converted eighteenth-century farmhouse quickly evolved into a dedicated dance hall. It became the epicenter of the biguine dance in Paris and served as a magnet for the city's bohemian avant-garde throughout the Roaring Twenties.
