Square Maurice Gardette

Before you stands Square Maurice Gardette, a peaceful green space that occupies a site once dominated by the industrial noise and odors of the Ménilmontant slaughterhouses. These abattoirs served the city for decades until they were demolished in eighteen sixty-seven to make way for urban renewal. The park officially opened on this ground in eighteen seventy-two, initially taking the name Square Parmentier.
