The building that once stood at sixty-six Rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle housed a century of shifting Parisian identities. Before its final incarnation as an alternative rock venue in the late twentieth century, the site served as a vital anchor for the Impressionist art movement in the eighteen-sixties. Painters like Edgar Degas frequently gathered here when it was known as the café La Nouvelle Athènes, turning the space into a workspace and social hub that defined the bohemian spirit of the era.
