Théâtre de l'Œuvre

The Theatre de l'Oeuvre occupies a site with a surprisingly domestic origin. Long before it became a bastion of avant-garde drama, the property served as a residence for a celebrated opera singer who was the mistress of the Duke of Gramont. By the late nineteenth century, the space had been converted into a small hall known as the Salle Berlioz, tucked away at the end of the Cité Monthiers.
