Sainte-Marguerite, Paris

The Eglise Sainte-Marguerite began in sixteen twenty-five as a simple chapel built for the furniture makers and laborers of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. At that time, this area was a rural outpost outside the walls of Paris, and residents had to travel long, difficult distances to reach their nearest church. A local nobleman named Jean de Vitry donated the land to ensure these workers had a place of worship within their own community. Over the next century, the chapel expanded significantly, eventually earning status as a full parish in seventeen twelve to accommodate the growing population of craftsmen.
