Bains-Douches

landmark

You are standing before a building with a history as layered as its architecture. Before it became a world-famous nightlife destination, this site opened in eighteen eighty-five as the Bains Guerbois, the most prestigious bathhouse in Paris. It provided a sanctuary of steam where figures like Marcel Proust came to indulge in luxurious sulfur baths. At the same time, the venue served a dual purpose, as local market workers from nearby Les Halles would stop by at dawn to shower and drink coffee after finishing their overnight shifts.
