Vanves Cemetery

The Vanves Cemetery is marked by high stone walls that enclose a sharp, narrow wedge of land between two busy streets. Opened in eighteen forty-eight, it replaced a cramped churchyard that could no longer accommodate the growing population. The space forced stonemasons to work in tight, irregular lanes, creating a vertical density where iron crosses lean against weathered limestone angels. In the back corner, the grave of the sculptor Auguste Rodin’s parents sits alongside rows of veterans from the nineteenth century wars.
