Vanves Cemetery

The Vanves Cemetery opened in eighteen thirty-six to replace a much older burial ground that had long surrounded the local Saint Remy church. This relocation followed a decree from eighteen eleven, marking the end of the traditional village practice of burying the dead right next to the house of worship. The municipality invested six hundred francs to purchase this new land, though they had to spend over four times that amount just to construct the necessary perimeter fencing and planting.
