Fontaine de l'ancien château

The Fontaine de l'ancien château stands as a quiet survivor of the grand estate that once dominated this area. This monumental fountain, famously adorned with two stone dolphins, served a practical purpose in the eighteenth century as a horse trough for the prestigious Château d'Issy. While the magnificent Baroque château itself was lost to fire during the chaos of the Paris Commune in 1871, this fountain remains as one of the few tangible remnants of that vanished aristocratic past. Its survival offers a rare glimpse into the lavish water features once designed for the nobility who retreated here to escape the pressures of Paris.
