Château d'Issy

The Château d’Issy is defined by a single surviving element: a seventeenth-century stone entrance gate that stands isolated within the park. While the original manor house vanished after a fire in eighteen seventy-one, this gate remains as a fragment of a once-grand estate designed by Pierre Bullet for the Prince of Conti. Inside these walls, the Prince famously hosted grand salons, where the era’s most influential poets and philosophers gathered to debate until dawn, leaving the gate to watch over an empty lawn.
