Porte de Sèvres de Paris

The Porte de Sèvres is a massive concrete arch spanning the Boulevard Périphérique, marking a gateway into Paris from the southwest. This structure serves as a reminder of the Thiers Wall, a defensive fortification built in the mid-nineteenth century to circle the city. While the wall was demolished after the First World War, the gate remained as a functional entrance for vehicles and trains. In the nineteen seventies, the city reconstructed the passage to accommodate the multi-lane highway traffic flowing into the fifteenth arrondissement.
