The Petite Ceinture is a sunken ribbon of abandoned railway track that cuts through the fifteenth arrondissement, held behind chain-link fences and dense, unmanicured greenery. It was once a circular line designed to connect Paris's major train stations, but the rise of the Metro rendered it redundant by the mid-twentieth century. In nineteen thirty-four, passenger service stopped completely. Now, nature claims the steel rails, creating a secluded corridor that feels miles away from the street traffic directly overhead.
