Grenelle Cemetery

The Grenelle Cemetery is marked by high limestone walls that keep the quiet space tucked away from the busy streets of the fifteenth arrondissement. Originally opened in eighteen thirty-five, the site replaced an earlier parish burial ground that sat on lower, marshy land. Among those resting here is Alfred Boucher, the sculptor who founded the famous artists' residence, La Ruche. He lies in a family plot near the center, alongside the modest stones of residents who shaped this corner of Paris.
