Pont Mirabeau

The Pont Mirabeau is a steel arch bridge defined by four massive allegorical statues of cast iron that crouch at the base of its stone piers. These figures represent the city of Paris, the city of Auteuil, and the rivers Seine and Marne. When the bridge opened in eighteen ninety-six, engineers touted its exceptionally low curve, which required the structure to be built entirely of metal to bear the weight. It was the first bridge in Paris to anchor its arches directly into the riverbanks.
