Gustave Eiffel's office

A small, glass-walled cabin sits tucked away at the very top of the Eiffel Tower, nearly one thousand feet above Paris. Gustave Eiffel designed this private space for himself in eighteen eighty-nine, right after the tower opened. While the rest of the structure vibrated with visitors, Eiffel kept this room for private meetings and scientific experiments. He famously turned down an enormous offer from an American inventor who wanted to buy the office, choosing instead to keep his lonely perch above the city.
