ancien hôpital Boucicaut Garden

landmark

The Ancien Hôpital Boucicaut is marked by a distinctive red brick and stone facade, a departure from the typical Haussmann limestone that dominates the fifteenth arrondissement. Marguerite Boucicaut, who owned the famous Le Bon Marché department store, funded this hospital in the eighteen nineties specifically for her employees. She wanted them to have access to modern medical care, a rare benefit for workers at the time. When the facility finally closed its medical wings, the site transformed into a neighborhood garden.
