Le Paquebot

landmark

Le Paquebot rises above the corner of rue des Cévennes and rue de la Convention with a curved, prow-like facade that mimics the bow of an ocean liner. Designed by architect Robert Danis in nineteen thirty, the building was intended to bring the streamlined aesthetic of industrial marine design into the residential streetscape of the fifteenth arrondissement. When it opened, the building offered a modern, light-filled living experience far removed from the dark, narrow apartment blocks that dominated the rest of the neighborhood.
