A massive, colorful wall mural featuring a man with a wild pompadour sits in the middle of Malakoff. This is the Chez Lucien fresco, drawn by the French comic artist Frank Margerin. It shows his famous character, Lucien, taking a break with a cigarette and a drink. The city commissioned the piece in the nineteen nineties to celebrate Margerin’s work, which captures the rock and roll subculture of the eighties. Lucien remains a permanent fixture, watching the neighborhood from his painted brick seat.
