Hôtel de Ville, Montrouge

The town hall you see before you stands on ground that once held the eighteenth century château of the Duke of La Vallière. After the château was demolished in 1879, the current municipal building was constructed between 1880 and 1883 to serve as the new center of local government. This construction became necessary because the town had lost its previous town hall in 1860, when Napoléon the Third annexed the district of Petit-Montrouge into Paris. That forced the remaining community to start fresh on this specific site to establish a new administrative hub.
