Colonne de la Paix Armée

landmark

The Colonne de la Paix Armée stands as a bronze column atop a pedestal in the middle of the Place de la Porte-de-Vanves. It features a winged figure of Victory at the summit, holding a torch high above the traffic. Sculptor Henri-Louis Cordier designed this monument to honor the defense of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War of eighteen seventy. Parisians donated the metal for the casting, which came from cannons captured during that conflict, ensuring the weaponized history stayed within the city walls.
