Porte d'Orléans de Paris

The Porte d’Orléans is a massive, concrete-heavy transit hub where the city’s edge meets the highway. It stands on the former site of a stone toll gate from the wall of the Farmers General, but the current structure owes its identity to nineteen thirties urban planning. When the surrounding fortification walls were leveled, engineers prioritized creating a wide, seamless artery for cars and the metro. Thousands pass through these tunnels daily, often unaware they are crossing the old perimeter of Paris.
