This square serves as a quiet urban retreat, but its layout sits directly atop a much older piece of the city. Before the green space was established in eighteen ninety-six, this land functioned as the former Place de Vaugirard. For much of the nineteenth century, this specific site hosted the local government offices for the Vaugirard commune, which later transitioned into the original town hall for what is now the fifteenth arrondissement.
