The facade of St. Teresa’s Church carries a distinctive, arched entrance topped by a prominent statue of its patron saint, standing guard over the busy Girgaum street. Built in eighteen eighty-seven, this structure replaced a smaller chapel that once served the local Portuguese community. When a fierce storm damaged the original roof in the eighteen eighties, the parish decided to construct this larger stone building. Father Joachim de Souza managed the project, securing donations from parishioners who walked past these walls every day.
