SHRI Mumbai Panjrapole

landmark

The Shri Mumbai Panjrapole in Gulal Wadi sits behind high, solid walls that seal off an unexpected stretch of green from the dense chaos of south Mumbai. This facility functions as an animal asylum, founded in eighteen thirty-four by a group of wealthy merchants to provide a sanctuary for cows, bulls, and other animals deemed useless or infirm. The original deed required the charity to provide food and medical care until the animals died naturally, a practice that continues inside today.
