The Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal features towering banyan tree roots that drape over its weathered stone gates like frozen waterfalls. This is the main temple of the Padangtegal village, dedicated to the god Shiva in his destructive and transformative form. In nineteen twenty, when a cholera epidemic swept through the region, the villagers prayed here for protection. They credit the temple spirits with ending the outbreak, and they continue to leave intricate palm-leaf offerings on the stone altars every single day.
