Ubud Palace

The Ubud Palace is defined by its ornate, split gateways and tiered stone shrines that rise above the crowded street. Built in the early nineteenth century by the lords of Ubud, it served as the royal residence for the local ruling family. In the nineteen thirties, the palace became a center for art and culture when Tjokorda Gede Agung Sukawati began hosting international painters and dancers here. One night, a legendary dancer from the village performed on the grounds, forever linking this courtyard to Balinese dance.
