Ubud Dalem Temple

The Pura Dalem Ubud is defined by its ornate, dark volcanic stone carvings depicting terrifying figures from Balinese mythology, including Rangda, the demon queen. Unlike the quiet courtyards of other temples, this space serves as the village sanctuary for the dead, dedicated to the destructive aspect of Shiva. During the nineteen sixties, a local artist named Gusti Nyoman Lempad oversaw a renovation here, adding the distinctively jagged stone entrance gates that frame the path to the inner sanctum.
