Tōnosawa Ichinoyu Honkan

The Tōnosawa Ichinoyu Honkan features a dark, wooden four-story facade that hugs the steep, rocky bank of the Hayakawa River. Built in sixteen thirty, this inn began as a simple rest stop for travelers traversing the rugged mountain passes toward Edo. It survived the collapse of the shogunate and the massive Great Kanto Earthquake of nineteen twenty-three. Today, the original cedar structures remain, holding the sound of the rushing water against the guest room walls all night long.
