Kikukawa Candy Shop

The Kikukawa Candy Shop holds a heavy wooden sign above its entrance, carved with deep characters that have darkened with age. For over eighty years, the shop has specialized in manju, a traditional steamed bun filled with sweet bean paste. Founder Kikukawa Masao began selling these sweets to travelers stopping near the Yumoto train station in the nineteen thirties. He insisted on using local spring water for his dough, a practice his family continues to maintain behind the glass display cases today.
