Seiryu-en Garden

Seiryu-en Garden features a massive collection of over one thousand rocks and carefully pruned pine trees set against the stark stone walls of Nijo Castle. Created in nineteen sixty-five, the garden occupies the former site of the castle's kitchen office. The architect Kobori Enshu designed the landscape to host diplomatic receptions for the city of Kyoto. A highlight is the teahouse, Kowa-an, constructed from salvaged timbers of old buildings once scattered across Japan, including parts from the Katsura Imperial Villa.
