Raku Museum

The Raku Museum is marked by a low, understated facade that gives nothing away about the intense creative lineage housed inside. This building holds the private collection of the Raku family, who have produced tea bowls by hand for sixteen generations. In the late sixteenth century, the first Raku potter, Chojiro, began crafting these vessels under the guidance of tea master Sen no Rikyu. Each successive generation has lived and worked on this same site, firing their signature black and red glazed bowls.
