Unsodo Corporation

other

The weathered wooden facade of the Unsodo Corporation building stands out among the modern structures of Myomanjimaecho. Founded in eighteen ninety-one, this shop began as a publisher of art books and prints, specializing in the delicate woodblock techniques that defined Kyoto's aesthetic. Inside, the shelves hold centuries-old woodblocks used to produce traditional prints. When the founder, Yamada Naosaburo, opened these doors, he committed the business to preserving the craft of hand-carved, hand-printed art, a practice they maintain to this day.
