The Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto occupies a long, three-story building with a facade of classic red brick and arched windows. This site functioned as the Rissei Elementary School, the first of its kind in Kyoto, established by local residents in eighteen sixty-nine. When the school closed in nineteen ninety-three, the building sat empty for years. Now, it hosts a hotel and public park space, with the original classroom architecture preserved as the centerpiece of the courtyard.
