Rokudō Chinnō-ji Temple

religious

Rokudō Chinnō-ji Temple sits behind a plain wooden gate, marked by a stone pillar carved with the name of the temple. Legend claims this site marks the boundary between the world of the living and the realm of the dead. According to local belief, a Heian period government official named Ono no Takamura traveled through a well on these grounds each night to assist the underworld judge, Enma, in his duties. A small statue of the deity Enma still remains inside the hall.
