Yuuhisai Koudoukan

The wooden gate at Yuuhisai Koudoukan opens to a house that once served as the private study for the eighteenth-century Confucian scholar Minagawa Kien. It features a tea room overlooking a garden where water flows from a spring once used by the Tsuchimikado family. Kien hosted thinkers here to discuss philosophy and art away from the city center. After falling into disrepair for decades, the house was saved from demolition by a local group that restored it to function as a cultural salon.
