Gokuraku-bashi Bridge

The Gokuraku-bashi Bridge features a distinct vermilion lacquer finish that stands out against the stone foundations of the Osaka Castle complex. This bridge serves as the primary entrance to the inner citadel, crossing the deep moat that guarded the shogunate leaders. During the siege of sixteen fifteen, this site witnessed the final collapse of the Toyotomi clan. As the castle fell to Tokugawa forces, the bridge became a bottleneck for fleeing soldiers, marking the definitive shift in power that unified Japan.
