Nishinomaru Garden

Nishinomaru Garden sits behind massive stone walls and a wide, deep moat, marked by the meticulously trimmed lawn that spreads out beneath the looming shadow of the Osaka Castle keep. In the late sixteenth century, this was the private residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the man who built the castle to cement his control over Japan. After his death, the original structures burned, leaving behind a garden that serves as the quiet, grassy stage for the castle’s most powerful history.
