Osaka Castle Museum

historic

The main keep of Osaka Castle rises with white plaster walls and gold-leaf tiger ornaments that catch the light against the dark green park grounds. Toyotomi Hideyoshi began construction in fifteen eighty-three to demonstrate his control over a unified Japan, though the original structure burned down within decades during the winter and summer sieges. The current concrete reconstruction dates to nineteen thirty-one, built after the citizens of Osaka raised funds to restore the tower as a museum of the city’s complex past.
