Hoppy Street

other

Hoppy Street features a dense row of open-air stalls covered by heavy canvas curtains that spill out onto the pavement. Locals call it the kitchen of Asakusa. The name comes from Hoppy, a low-alcohol malt beverage mixed with shochu, which became a staple here during the postwar years when beer was too expensive for most residents. Stalls here specialize in beef tendon stew, a dish that has simmered in the same iron pots for decades.
