Nakamise Shopping Street

Nakamise Shopping Street stretches two hundred fifty meters from the Kaminarimon Gate toward the main hall of Senso-ji Temple. It stands out by its eighty-nine stalls, each topped with a uniform red-lacquered sign and seasonal decorations hanging from the ceiling. These vendors sell traditional snacks like freshly grilled senbei rice crackers and folding fans to pilgrims and tourists. In eighteen eighty-five, the government designated this path a formal shopping street, replacing the small shops that served the temple's visitors for centuries.
