Casa Cristo

The Casa Cristo features a prominent, asymmetrical facade defined by a sweeping, curved wall that mimics the movement of a breaking wave. Architect Luis Barragan designed this residence in nineteen twenty-nine for Gustavo Cristo. It marks a bridge in his career, moving away from his early, more ornate Spanish colonial influences toward a leaner, functional aesthetic. Barragan placed the entrance away from the street, creating a private transition that prioritizes the internal experience of light and shadow over the public display of wealth.
