Coyoacan Market

Bright yellow and red banners hang over the entrance of the Coyoacan Market, marking the spot where local vendors have gathered for decades. Before this structure appeared in nineteen fifty-six, people bartered for goods in the open plazas nearby. The market was built to centralize that chaotic trade into a permanent indoor space. Frida Kahlo lived just a few blocks away and frequently bought her fruit and vegetables here, often arguing with merchants over the ripeness of the papayas before heading home.
