Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles

The Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles features a long, whitewashed wall punctuated by high, iron-grilled windows and an arched entryway leading to sprawling gardens. Originally the site of the Hacienda de Santa Catarina, the property served as a paper mill in the nineteenth century before its transformation into a cultural hub. During the Mexican Revolution, the grounds provided a hiding place for soldiers moving through the neighborhood. Today, residents study painting and dance in rooms once used to process pulp.
