Jardín Centenario

Two bronze coyote statues sit at the center of the fountain in Jardín Centenario. These animals honor the neighborhood name, Coyoacán, which translates from Nahuatl as the place of coyotes. Before this square became a public park in nineteen ten, the space served as a monastic orchard for the neighboring church. Residents often gathered here to trade goods or cross toward the parish, but today, the coyote fountain marks the transition from the busy streets into the quiet, tree-shaded heart of the town.
