Church of Holy Martyrs

religious

The Church of the Holy Martyrs in Guéliz features a distinct, boxy tower topped with a simple cross, standing in sharp contrast to the surrounding minarets. Built in nineteen twenty-eight, it served the growing European population that settled in this new district during the French Protectorate. Father Jacques Levrey became a fixture here, living alongside his small congregation for decades. When he died in two thousand and seven, he was buried within the church walls, where he remains today.
