Koutoubia Minaret

The Koutoubia Minaret stands seventy-seven meters tall, capped with a distinct lantern and four copper globes. Built in the twelfth century under the Almohad Caliph Yacoub el-Mansour, this tower served as the spiritual anchor for Marrakech. Legend holds that the wife of a previous ruler melted down her gold jewelry to fund the creation of the fourth sphere. Locals still tell the story of these spheres, claiming a fifth was once covered in pure gold and lost to history.
