Almoravid Koubba

The Almoravid Koubba is a small, domed stone building tucked into a corner of the Ben Youssef Mosque complex. It is the only surviving structure from the Almoravid dynasty in Marrakesh. Builders completed it around eleven hundred and seventeen, designing it as an ablution pavilion for worshipers. When the Almohad army conquered the city in the mid-twelfth century, they destroyed most Almoravid architecture. They spared this structure, burying it under a mound of earth until excavations uncovered it in nineteen forty-eight.
