Plaza Rahba Kedima

Plaza Rahba Kedima displays a distinct grid of spice sellers arranged in colorful, cone-shaped piles. Known historically as the Spice Square, this market functioned as the city’s primary auction block for enslaved people until the early twentieth century. Merchants once stood here to trade goods while buyers inspected the offerings under the sun. Today, the square serves as a quiet center for herbalists and vendors selling woven baskets, wool, and heaps of ground cumin, turmeric, and dried rosebuds for the surrounding medina.
