Shrob ou shouf fountain

The Shrob ou Shouf fountain features an intricately carved wooden canopy that hangs low over a marble basin. Built in the late sixteenth century during the reign of the Saadi Sultan Ahmed el-Mansour, it provided water for travelers and locals near the entrance to the spice market. The name translates to drink and look, a command etched in plaster for those who paused to fill their water skins. Today, the water no longer flows, but the carved cedar remains weathered by the desert sun.
