Place du 16 Novembre

Place du seize Novembre features a large, circular fountain at its center, ringed by palm trees that break up the grid of the surrounding streets. This square marks the heart of the Guéliz district, built during the French Protectorate. It serves as a transition point between the historic medina and the modern city. In nineteen fifty-five, crowds gathered here to celebrate the return of Sultan Mohammed the Fifth from exile, a pivotal moment that accelerated the push toward Moroccan independence.
